Lone Peak Homecoming 2014

The high school homecoming came early in the season this year!  The third weekend of school and things are already happening.  Spencer has a great group of guys that planned a fun evening with some beautiful girls, with a "little" help from mom. 

 As with any dance, the coordination of outfits is a must and I made the corsages and several boutonnières to accessorize.  The "flowers" are made of various fabrics that are cut, singed, and layered together to create these one of a kind keepsakes.

The evening began with pictures, making individual pizzas and a game of "Apples to Apples" while the pizzas baked.  Then off to the dance they went. After the dance they returned to our home, changed into comfortable clothes, and enjoyed an outdoor movie while roasting S'mores. 

It was such a pleasure to host a fun evening for these great young people!

First Day of School 2014-2015

So, it has been forever since I've blogged, but I need to get back to it!  We are provided with so many opportunities to "start fresh", in small ways and big, the start of a new school year seemed like an opportunity to start blogging again. 

This morning began early, 5:50am for me, with the first two off to high school.  My baby boy is entering his senior year!  It is hard to admit that all those well wishers years ago were correct when they said it (the opportunity to care for, and meet the immediate needs of, your children) would fly by!  I've come to accept, if not fully exercise, the belief that to find happiness in the moment is the true gift of life.

 Because he is always in a hurry, due to his obsession with sleeping to the last second, I thought this picture best reflected his mornings!

Lucky sister gets to join her big brother at high school this year, catching a ride each morning as they begin the day together.  They have the opportunity to take a couple classes together, as well as early morning seminary (at 6:15am every other day).

I'm not sure this one even went to sleep the night before her big day!

The second wave, an hour later, sent the youngest off to her first day of fifth grade.  Last year was her first year riding the bus without a sibling, so she is becoming more independent.  She was up bright and early with big sister and more than ready with her backpack of new supplies and bright pink shoes.

I can't believe how fast she is growing!

And last, but never least, the middle school man!  Why the earliest riser has the latest start time is a mystery to me, but he is wide awake by the time the bus arrives for him.  Today the extra 15 minutes, due to a late bus, was used socializing with friends at the bus stop right in front of our house.  

On his own for the first time.  He has too many friends to be lonely though.

I'm excited for this time of year.  A little structure is always good.  I just pray it doesn't become overwhelming, like it sometimes does.  I return to BYU-I in September for my final semester, with a graduation in December.  This coming May we will celebrate the first high school graduation of our next generation and look forward to the adventures that follow.

As for today, I intend to relax, snuggle with a blanket and a good book, while a gentle rain falls outside my window.
